Our client now has an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer or senior with 5/10 years’ experience to join their team in the Manchester Offices. The team consists of 19 geotechnical engineers, geologists and geoenvironmental specialists. You will work with local staff delivering a wide portfolio of projects including major infrastructure projects, site development and buildings projects. The team supports and collaborates on projects across the region as well as on national and international projects providing high quality and specialist technical advice.
Requirements
They undertake projects for a variety clients in different sectors with the majority being in the infrastructure (Highways and Rail) and building sectors. Some of their current key project include HS2 Phase 1 (C2/C3) temporary works design, Network Rail CP6 projects, several highways projects and properties (commercial high rise structures).
You will deliver geotechnical work for a variety of commissions ranging both in size and complexity and will report to the Associate. Subject to the requirements of individual projects, work will relate to the design of ground investigation and geotechnical interpretation of the findings of ground investigation. Design of foundations, slopes, retaining walls earthworks/slope stability and reinforced earthworks and many other geotechnical elements will also form a key aspect of the role, together with assessment of existing structures, soil- structure interaction assessment and design of remedial measures where appropriate.
Preparation and direction of desk study research to assess site conditions and potential ground risks.
Planning, supervision and interpretation of ground and groundwater investigations, to specifically address geotechnical issues and to gather appropriate data.
Undertaking assessments to inform risks and to allow the development of appropriate designs/remedial works.
Supervising and coordinating the work of others and interfacing with engineers from other specialist partners.
Design of foundations, slopes, retaining walls and many other geotechnical elements will form a key aspect of the role, together with assessment of existing structures and design of remedial measures where appropriate.
Problem solving/analytical skills.
Ability to independently use basic theoretical knowledge and principles relevant to the discipline to analyse, interpret and conclude on standard matters or decisions.
Solid experience with a proven track record in geotechnical work and experience across a range of projects, ideally gained within a consulting environment.
Experience of planning, managing, supervising and interpreting ground investigation data, in relation to geotechnical aspects.
A sound understanding of soil mechanics.
Ability to design embedded retaining walls, pad and piled foundations.
Proficient in the use of spreadsheets and FREW, SLIDE, Settle 3D, Plaxis or similar industry standard software.
Good appreciation of construction processes leading to the development of integrated solutions covering geotechnical and geo-environmental issues
Experience of working on multi-disciplinary projects.
Working knowledge of Eurocode 7 and UK annex design codes, ground investigation and construction contracts and specifications
Good communication skills (both verbal and written).
Ability to project manage small to medium size projects.
10 years design experience and chartered or working towards ICE Chartership
